I am gutted to learn that my design mentor Jorge V

I am gutted to learn that my design mentor Jorge Verdin aka @elsr.verdin aka #Clorofila of @nortecbf has died.

Jorge and @johannawastaken were my first design bosses at LAUNCH and really took me under their wings. Jorge made me learn all the fonts we had, testing me with billboards, signs and menus when we went for walks down to the Promenade to collect rave flyers from the record store, earning the moniker, Señor Font. Even though I drove him crazy sometimes, he was always a doting figure and taped all the first season of South Park for me and gave me a wrapped VHS of Dolomite for my birthday.
Even 20 years after working together, he would always answer my texts, usually looking for some font ID from the 90s, which he always knew, and then we’d spend a while making fun of how terrible they were. I wish I’d known he’d been sick the past couple of years, but I understand why he didn’t let on. Saying goodbye is so hard.
He taught me so much about design, influenced so much of my design sensibility and was a big part of what you see of my work and I’ve always been proud to call him my teacher.

This one really hurts and I’m gonna miss you a lot Jorge.
